“Storytime“
by Guineesha Bosquet
Stories are a virtual reality.
Close your eyes and make believe.
Block out the terrors of the world around you- and write what you see – in the form of a story.
Bedtime stories at night, so you sleep tight knowing you read a story about a princess and a knight – or a warrior who somehow fell in love while the world was getting massacred.
Story escapees – blocking all the negativity and finding a light that doesn’t exist-
That’s when you open your eyes, all that’s left is a myth or mystery unsolved-
Funny how stories are tales of the world – hidden in a way they’re a lie, but the truth is somehow hidden inside- as if it were written in cursive writing – Fighting the obvious but hiding from the novice’s eyes.
Pretty yet the meaning… not so much
Stories are a virtual reality where you close your eyes and make-believe.
Write about the control that people have over puppetry-
people who are lost and forced to believe a lie.
A story about a girl who had her whole family massacred and was forced to fight a fight that she had no idea she would face one day.
Write about a story – about a girl who was left in the middle of a war between the living and the dead, and surviving against all odds.-
A story about a boy who couldn’t escape his father and instead hid in his insufferable humor.
Write a story about a girl who is sent to a place to fight night and day in armor too heavy, but she carries it anyway.
A story about a boy who lost it all overnight, too young to fight – but too old to be put down and told “you’re too young to know” – Or A story about a girl who kept her writings close so that maybe one day someone will grow the nerve to wake up and read them.
Write a story about a boy who left it all, forced into a role that he had to stand tall in, and no one could ever see him fall.
Stories are a virtual reality where you close your eyes and make believe
Except this time, you wake up and open your eyes to the world and see the nonsense stories weren’t so nonsensical after all.
This time, you will look at the pencil that is used to create, but is made from something that can destroy.
You need no dagger when the only weapon is carved from your soul.
Stories are a virtual reality where you close your eyes and make believe
To be real or not to be.
The power is within the pen that writes the scene.
Now, for the last time, I say close your eyes and make believe and hold them shut.
Opened eyes see all the cries and the traps meant to consume you.
