HeartLines is a bi-annual literary magazine run by Sacred Heart University student editors. It is our mission to give emerging writers and artists a platform to share their unique voices and talent. We believe it is the stories we share that keep our hearts full.

Editors in Chief

Adam Petrosino

Adam Petrosino is a playwright, performer, and poet based in Fairfield, CT. He is currently a junior at Sacred Heart University, double-majoring in English and Theatre Arts with minors in Creative Writing and Philosophy, planning to pursue playwriting in an MFA program thereafter. He has had many of his theatrical works developed and produced at his university and beyond, and now serves as the TheatreFest Chair, helping other SHU students write and produce their works within the Theatre Arts Program. His most recent credit is Sfumato, a one-act play performed at The Press Box Theatre in Southbury, CT. He has also been published as a poet / non-fiction writer in The NorthEast Coast and SHU’s Heartlines, as well as working as a Work Study Scholar at Poetry By The Sea for the last two summers. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild. He is incredibly excited to be a senior editor for Heartlines this semester and is looking forward to another amazing issue! Liliana Sosnowski

Liliana Sosnowski is a senior Biology major with minors in Creative Writing, Chemistry and Honors at Sacred Heart University. When Liliana is not working on HeartLines, she can be found in the lab where she participates in ecological research investigating how early life adversaries alter the physiological development of backyard songbird nestlings. Liliana is a member of the university orchestra where she plays the violin, is a Genetics Learning Lab Leader and Organic Chemistry Classroom Learning Assistant for the Departments of Biology and Chemistry, and is the Vice President of the Nu Phi chapter of Beta Beta Beta- a  national biology honor society. In her free time, Liliana loves to write her own stories, create new art, learn new baking recipes, and unwind while watching her new favorite show. Upon graduation, Liliana plans on continuing her education by pursing a Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences specializing in Medicinal Chemistry. But most of all, she is thrilled to be back at HeartLines to help craft another incredible issue!

Kathryn Haig

Kathryn Haig is a senior English major with minors in Honors, Creative Writing, and Irish Studies at Sacred Heart University. She was awarded the Best Writing 2024 Award at the Sacred Heart Academic Festival for her essay titled “Making History a Living Memory: The Power of Play and Role Immersion in Enhancing Education” and will be presenting a paper – “Female Power and Nature in ‘The Story of an Hour’” – at the Spring 2026 Sigma Tau Delta Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. Kathryn is a member of the International English Honors Society, known as Sigma Tau Delta; secretary of Sacred Heart’s English Club; and, having studied abroad for six weeks in Rome, Italy during the summer of 2024 and for five months in Dingle, Ireland during the spring of 2025, a Global Ambassador. Unsurprisingly, she loves to travel and explore new places, cultures, and cuisines. In her free time, she can be found either with a book; running in the gym; listening to Broadway music and oldies; playing with her dogs; or working on poetry and fiction pieces. Kathryn is passionate about writing and literature and intends to pursue a Masters in Library Science beginning in the fall of 2026. She is excited to continue working on HeartLines!

Olivia Lieby

Olivia Lieby is a senior Film & Television major at Sacred Heart with minors in Creative Writing and Irish Studies. She has always loved storytelling in all its many forms and has dabbled in music, art, and writing as mediums. She is passionate about the genres of fantasy, science-fiction, and horror and the many ways they intersect. When she’s not writing, she can often be found reading superhero comics or watching the latest in TV and Movies. She has studied abroad at Sacred Heart’s Dingle campus twice, taking classes on filmmaking and Irish history, culture, and folklore. Some day she hopes to be in a writing and directing role, working on her own shows and movies. Olivia is excited to share the incredible work of fellow writers in the latest edition of Heartlines!

Elle Lombardo

Elle Lombardo is a junior double majoring in Media Arts: Film & Television and Sports Communications & Media, with a minor in Creative Writing. She is actively involved on campus through Marching Band, Winter Guard, Kappa Kappa Psi, the Gender Sexuality Alliance, and Women in STEM. In her free time, Elle enjoys writing and photography. She aspires to pursue a career as a sports photographer or movie producer, and she is excited to contribute to her first issue of Heartlines.

Amanda Wilbur

Amanda Wilbur is a sophomore English major with Writing and Dance minors at Sacred Heart University. She engages in many different activities at Sacred Heart, being a part of the Thomas More Honors Program, the Dance Ensemble, and the club HerCampus. From Auburn, Massachusetts, Amanda is a passionate dancer, competing for 14 years and now continuing to dance in college, even choreographing a piece last fall. When she is not dancing, she loves to read, write, and be surrounded by her friends. She cares a lot about animals, and loves listening to music, as well as attending live concerts. One day, she hopes to teach dance as well as possibly literature or writing, as she loves working with children and hopes to make a difference in their lives. She is incredibly excited about publishing in her first edition of Heartlines, and can’t wait to share this with all the other writers!

Julie Dunn

Julie Dunn is a senior English major at Sacred Heart University, with minors in Health Humanities and Catholic Studies. She is a commuter student who lives in Fairfield, CT, and has been involved in the English Club, Campus Ministry and Community Engagement, and is a member of Sigma Tau Delta, an international English honors society. In her spare time Julie loves to sew, color, take long walks, spend time with her mom and brother, watch her favorite TV shows, and when friends are around, she loves to head out for coffee or breakfast in downtown Fairfield or go out to a good movie. Upon graduation, Julie is planning to work in a career field that best utilizes the strengths of her English major and dual minors. Julie is really thrilled to be back at Heartlines to craft another phenomenal issue!

James Shandrowski

James Shandrowski is senior at Sacred Heart University double-majoring in Media Arts and Immersive Media and Mixed Reality with a Creative Writing minor as well. Having always been a fan of stories, especially in movies and tv shows. He continues to deepen his knowledge of these art forms while studying at SHU and has been a part of several productions throughout his four years here. Currently, he is also a member of the Film Club, Short Filmmakers Club, and the GSA. When he is not in school, there is a good chance you will run into him at the local Dunkin Donuts grabbing himself a drink, or at the movie theater where he spends a large amount of his time watching all of the newest films. He is excited to be a member of the Heartlines team and cannot wait to get started on a brand new edition!

Eric Arakelian is an energetic and passionate college student majoring in Information Technology. Eric is a brother of the Iota Alpha chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, a fraternity here at Sacred Heart. He is extremely happy to have helped create the website HeartLines and is excited to see what the future holds for this website.

Isaiah is a senior Information Technology Major with a minor in Cybersecurity. Additionally, he is a student employee for the Networking Department at Sacred Heart University; he’s a part of multiple organizations at SHU such as TAP, Alpha Phi Omega, and Delta Tau Delta. Isaiah enjoyed creating HeartLines as his senior project!

Laura Regan

Laura is a Senior Information Technology Major at Sacred Heart University, minoring in Business, Management, and Honors. Laura is passionate about being a brother of the Chi Mu Chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a Professional Co-ed Business Fraternity. Laura is so excited to have helped create the HeartLines online platform, and she hopes it becomes a space where people can share their creativity!

Hard Shah

Meet Hard Shah, an undergraduate majoring in Computer Science with a minor in Mathematics, embodies a fusion of cultural diversity and academic excellence. He has an unwavering passion for guitar. Enthusiastic about the complexities of coding languages, he delves into the logical puzzles of programming while also nurturing his artistic side through music. He brings a unique blend of passion from his upbringing in India to his current life in the States. The coexistence of innovation and passion in his life is what brings out the best in him.

Roshan Patwari

Roshan Patwari is a Recent Grad Student at Sacred Heart University who loves bringing ideas to life online. He build clean, responsive websites with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and tools like Angular and Tailwind. With a solid background in both design and code, He make sure things not only look good but work great too. Whether it’s front-end magic or back-end logic, He gets excited about every new project. If you’ve got a vision, He is ready to make it happen.

Professor Marie Hulme

Prof. Hulme teaches Literature and Creative Writing. She received her B.A. In English from Smith College, an M.A. in British and American Literature from New York University, an M.A. in Teaching from Sacred Heart University, and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Fairfield University. Prof. Hulme’s fiction and non-fiction writing have won national recognition, most recently by the 2022 Pen Women’s Keats’ Literary Awards, with a first prize in the Religious Essay category and an honorable mention in the Flash Fiction category. She has previously been awarded third prize in the national story category by the Hackney Literary Awards for her short story published in “The Birmingham Arts Journal.” Prior to her life as an academic, she worked as a print journalist in Fairfield county and as a broadcast journalist for ABC News in London.

Professor Nathan Lewis

Nathan Lewis is a California born artist and curator. He received his MFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He also studied at the Florence Academy of Art in Italy and in St. Petersburg, Russia, and received a BFA from Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Connecticut. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in museums, galleries, and universities. His work is in private collections in NY, CT, MA, PA, CA, OR, FL, Germany, Russia and India. He has 5 works in the permanent collection of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. His paintings have been on the cover of numerous books and journals, and his work was included in films shown at the Cannes and Sundance Film festivals. His work has been published and reviewed by the New York Times, the New York Press, International Artist, Fine Art Connoisseur, Art in New England, The Huffington Post, and the Boston Globe, among others. He has received multiple grants, and two URCG grants to research art in Belgium, France, and Japan. He has been the recipient of multiple fellowships and residencies and has given artists talks at institutions throughout the US and Italy.

Dr. Robert McCloud

Bob McCloud is a Distinguished International Professor and Associate Professor of Computer Science at Sacred Heart University, currently serving as the Associate Dean of the Computer Science & Technology Department. He earned an honors degree in Philosophy at Williams College, then went to University of Pennsylvania to pursue graduate studies. At Penn, he was Schubert Fellow in Playwrighting. Along the way, he discovered computer programming and wrote his first program: a tool to analyze word use in the plays of Edward Albee. After developing that program, he became confused: computer science or playwrighting? That led to an extended absence from academia. During that time, he tried both writing and computer careers, ultimately spending most of the time doing computer science projects for corporations. His early corporate and publishing careers are documented as one of six entrepreneurs profiled in the book Self Made, by John Stickney, published by J.P. Putnam’s.

Ultimately corporate work lost its appeal. He quit and returned to graduate school to finish his doctorate. That led to a teaching job search that concluded at Sacred Heart. In addition to a group of published books and articles, Bob has had five major international fellowships, including two Fulbrights and a World Bank research grant. He also served as special projects advisor to Prime Minister Sali Berisha of Albania. Bob’s current work at Sacred Heart focuses on game design, in particular, using markerless motion capture to create animated game characters.
