“The One I Wait For”

by Tristan Greeley

I always dream about your face

in my small, soft cozy bed.

I picture every strand of hair

on your big, beautiful head.

I long to hear your caring whisper

in the midst of troubled days.

and even when you’re lost or scared,

you’ll always know the way.

You’ll never feel like giving up

on days that might feel tough.

You’ll always hold your head up high,

even when you’ve had enough.

And when it’s time to say goodbye,

I know you’ll be alright;

you’ll keep my photo by your bed

to comfort you at night.

It’s you I always think about

in the middle of that class.

It’s you I know I’ll give my love to

looking through that glass.

It’s you I know I’ll need the most

While sobbing salty tears,

and it’s you I know I’ll meet one day,

only in a few years.

But still, I sometimes ask myself,

Do you feel the same?

Do you wish you showed me more love

when you think about my name?

Do you feel the nostalgia

when you drive back down my street?

Do you sometimes miss your younger self?

Are you the me I can’t wait to meet?
